The 92nd Academy Awards took place on 9 February 2020.
It was fantastic to see that amongst all the glitter and glamour sustainable fashion was also in the spotlight.
Some stars chose to borrow gowns from designers rather than wear new gowns. Others re-wore outfits they already owned.
Jane Fonda re-wore an Ellie Saab dress she first wore at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013; while Elizabeth Banks wore a Badgley Mishka dress that she’d first worn to the Vanity Fair Oscars Party in 200; removing the straps to update the look.
Joaquin Phoenix wore the same Stella McCartney suit he's been wearing all awards season.
Others chose gowns made with sustainable fabric.
Saoirse Ronan wore a Gucci gown, the black bodice of which used repurposed material from the black Gucci gown she had worn to the BAFTAs the week before.
Olivia Coleman wore a Stella McCartney gown made from a sustainable velvet material.
Kaitlyn Dever wore a red dress made out of eco-responsible silk satin,
Léa Seydoux wore a black-and-white gown made from organic silk faille and eco-friendly fabric Tencel Luxe.
It was so refreshing to see sustainable fashion in such a high profile setting. It proves what I strongly believe: that fashion can be beautiful as well as good for the planet.
